GETTING TO TOKYO

Narita to Tokyo: choose your first connection

Research-based planning guide · Reviewed October 14, 2026

Start with your hotel address, not simply “Tokyo.” Compare the full trip to your door, including station exits and the final walk. The right choice depends on your arrival time, luggage and destination.

Compare the whole journey

OptionConsider it when…Before choosing
RailYou are comfortable navigating stations.Check transfers, station access and the final walk.
Airport busA stop is convenient for your accommodation.Confirm the exact stop, departure time and luggage rules.
Taxi or booked carYou prefer a direct journey.Confirm the full quote, vehicle capacity and pickup instructions.

Three things to have ready

  1. Save your accommodation’s address in English and Japanese, with its map pin.
  2. Identify your arrival terminal and check departures from that terminal.
  3. Choose a backup if your flight arrives too late for your first option.

Arriving late?

Do not use the aircraft landing time as your station departure time. Allow for airport formalities and baggage collection. Check the actual date’s timetable and contact your accommodation if check-in could be late.
